other than the obvious by looking over the animal and its conditions? Talk to the breeder, but your own two eyes will be your first clue...other than that you can't know by looking if they have internal parasites or are wild caught...which is where talking comes in but people are not always truthfull.

If it's anything like last time, you'll find A LOT of baby ball at the show. I usually go every month and last month they had a fricking ton of babies there.
Just follow Heath's advice: when you're picking out a snake, look at how it moves. Does it have a good grip on you? Is it moving around quite a bit, flicking it's tounge, interested in what's going on around it?
I usually avoid anyone that has a bunch of babies thrown together in a tank. They always have these advertised for incredibly low prices (last month, a whole of females were $25 a piece). I don't trust that. They're probably wild caught, or non-eating, or something. Try to find someone that has babies somewhat individualized.
If you DO decide to buy from someone that has a bunch of babies together, I would recommend putting it in a fairly small shoe-box size enclosure when you get home, keeping him warm, and leaving him alone. He'll be cold from the show anyway... and if he's non-eating, leaving him alone for a week or so may help that along, too (P.S. Quaratine!!!!).
Have a great time at the show!!! As always, I'll be there

I'm going to the November show as well. You're right about all the baby balls there. I had never been to a show before, and I assumed that lumping all the babies together like that was normal. I guess it's not. I am planning on getting a ball soon and was somewhat wary of buying from the breeders who had them lumped together in the same tank. I found that a bit odd.
The unfortunate thing about this show is that it's the same day as Michigan!!! Luckily, it's a 1 o'clock game so I can go early and be back in time for the game!!!!
