    Thermostat for heat cable

What type of thermostat do I need to use with heat cable?
Can I use an on/off thermostat or do I need a dimming/pulse thermostat?
I've already tried google without luck.

Some years ago, I re-purposed a large finished wood cabinet to house a Taiwan Beauty rat snake. I used a heat cable that was wired to a household thermostat* &
it worked great. *I don't recall the brand, but it was just like what your house or apartment uses to regulate central heating....so there's that.
