Quick Question about Feeder Size
My male BP is 577 grams and 9 months old as of this week...and ready to take on larger feeders. Layne Labs (the only place I've ordered from, and really like) offers Small Rats at 40-69 grams.
I know some people say a Male BP should never really need anything more than a Small Rat, but does 40 Grams sound too small? The next size up is Small/Mediums at 70-89 grams.
I want to get the small ones and just feed a day or two sooner if needed. BUT what happens if he exceeds 700-1000 grams? Should I stick with the smalls at that stage, or switch to Small/Mediums?
I'd hate to order just 10 rats and pay for all that shipping, so I'd rather get 20-25...but I don't want to order too many too small, or too big.

I'd get the 20-25 rats, weigh them when they arrive, re-bag them based on weight, and feed off the smaller ones first.

Re: Quick Question about Feeder Size
I wouldn't worry about adult size being too big for those rats for a male.
My adult males eat ever 2 weeks a 50-80g rat. Mostly rats are around 50-60g for them. If I were to feed 40g, I'd just offer weekly. I prefer the slightly larger size and less often for males over 1 year old, but adults don't need to be eating the 10%. ~5% (3-7%) is more realistic for adults if you go by weights.
Most of the food they eat is used for growing as juveniles, so adults don't need nearly as much food since they're just maintaining size rather than doing significant growing.
My adult males right now are 1,100g at nearly 2 yrs old and 1,400g at an estimated 4-6 years old. Both do well on biweekly 50-60g rats.
