    Not a happy birthday!

So today is my boys birthday. He’s none to happy. Had him out and my noticed notes on him. He has 10 minutes left of his soap bath. Both my snakes eat pre killed, could the rats be carrying the mites in?

I was looking for the Post-It "notes" on him...? You meant to type "mites" I assume? (Bummer!) Anyway, rodents can have mites too, but they're a
different species & won't inhabit snakes, nor will snake mites take to your live rodents (if you have them). Let's hope your pretty BP gets past this soon.

Please be aware that bathing your snake should get rid of many or most of his mites, but since you cannot submerge his face/head, some can still hide
& survive, so you'll need some other stronger measures to completely get rid of them. Mites can carry diseases to snakes, & they can & do kill them by dehydrating them, causing their organs to fail. Please don't underestimate mites, especially since he's had them for a while (-?). You'll need to thoroughly
clean his cage too, & get rid of anything they could hide or leave eggs in (like substrate & things made of wood). Best to keep him on white paper towels
until mites are gone...it's easier to see them, it leaves them nowhere to hide.

How long have you had him? Have you checked your other snake? Might want to treat them both, mites spread easily when you weren't aware of them.

I have treated his enclosure with PAM, plus I have baked his hides, threw away anything that was plastic that I couldn’t bake after the PAM. Yesterday was his 1 year birthday. I will have had him a year in August. My little girl will be a year old next month. I’m not sure what else to do. I am about to start treating her in a few minutes after a clothes change.

    Thanks

I feel for ya, mites really -and literally - suck.

Plastics hides are safe, no need to bake them, just wash, as they're too smooth for mites to hide in, but if "by plastic" you meant fake plants, yeah, I'd toss them too.
Sounds like you're on top of those little nasties.

    Re: Not a happy birthday!

Do you have any guesses where else they could have come from? Have been to a reptile shop or show recently? Possibly could have come from there. I had mites one time on one of my snakes. All of mine are in one room except one and that was the one that got them. All snakes I have I have had a while and had not bought anything new. The only thing I feel it could maybe had caused it was that I went to a small repticon in a nearby city a week before. I didnt buy anything, but I did hold a few noodles. Within a week of going the that show I noticed a few on him. Once I saw the little bastards, I treated all my cages. The others seemed to look ok at the time, but better be safe than sorry!

The only thing I can think of is that I did hold a snake about a month ago at the local shop. I didn’t mess with either snake after that cause it was feeding day. I am going to be more cautious from here on out though. Little blood suckers are a pain!
