Does shedding make them really uncomfortable?

    Hi

I wondered if shedding (which ours is in the process of now) makes their mid-region a bit uncomfortable?

Our 7 month old was half in half out of her hide hide during vivarium cleaning and when we just gently run our fingers along her she kind of jumps a bit when we get to about half way down her body. Apart from looking greyish with her blue eyecaps as in shed mode she seems to look OK. She ate a couple of mice on Sunday evening (nothing seems to put her off feeding not even a shed) and it was the following day (about 36 hours after) this happened and has happened once again since. As she's shedding and hiding we haven't fiddled about with her too much - but should we get her out for a better look and see how she moves around?

Yes being in shed makes them uncomfortable, its ichy and when they eyes go blue their already bad vision gets worse.

Leave her be until afterwards. A little bit of handling won't hurt her, but it's more for your sake than hers. She would probably rather be left alone.

Well - I am leaving her alone - I do hate this non-handling time - I really miss her when she hides away ah well - there's always one of 3 lizards, a dog or a parrot ...

She's shed now and is really luxuriously satiny soft again - I do miss our evening cuddles during shed - thanks for your replies - think I was getting a bit neurotic.

LOL Didn't you know you get a free case of OCD with every ball python purchased!

Glad your snake shed out easily and is feeling more socialable now. That's the best part of having multiple snakes....always someone that isn't shedding or whatever so you can find a lap snake when you'd like one!

I wish ... like I said in another post, my husband HATES snakes, absolute DETESTS them... *sigh*
