switching to plastic?

I am considering switching to plastic. What do you all use? I was looking at a 28 gal. clear rubbermaid tub...I would like something that I could see into pretty well. Also, do you use regular UTH's just like I do now on my glass? Are the ones on the glass removable, or will they tear up? Thanks in advance for your help.

I use a mix of sterlite tubs Animal plastics enclosures/Racks a couple home made enclosures. I have almost totaly switched over to flex watt now as my heathing methode (much cheaper than UTHs).
The UTHs that stick to the glass will almost always tear up when removed from the glass, and they say not to use them with plastic but I do/Have and have never had a problem. The way I look at it is, if it gets that hot to melt plastic think of what it will do to my snake.

We use a few different sizes of clear Sterlites bought from our local WalMart store. Watch the lids though and add extra things if you need to make them escape proof. We bought a great little soldering wand from WalMart for around $10.00 that puts in airholes perfectly. We use aspen for our substrate.

We've found them great for keeping the heat and especially the humidity right. Very easy to adjust and light to move for cleaning, etc. The snakes seem to be doing just great in this type of housing.

We have the one big boa in a glass tank and it was way more challenging to set up and get it running right through the normal seasonal temp and humidity changes.

What can you do to secure the lids on Sterilite better? Mine seem to all latch, but some not as secure as the others. I guess I should have checked each in the store.

I use the huge paper clips that you can buy at Staples to clamp down the edges of my sterilites. They work very well.

I Hinge mine using a soldering wand and zip ties on one side and a small travel lock on the other keeps the snakes in and my daughter out, not that she would go in there with out me anyways.
