how to get poop stench out of plastic plants?

    Hi!
Just dealt with my first BP poop. He took his dump on the plastic plants that I have for him. And I washed them with soap and water but cannot get the stench out of it. Any tips for a new BP owner for how to get them to not stink?

    Thanks

Honestly I would love to hear a solution for this too, I’ve always ended up throwing out the plants because the smell is so bad and no matter how much I wash, it won’t come out. I stopped using those silk / plastic plants and I’m just using fully plastic ones they’re a lot easier to clean and I think they don’t hold the smell as much.

These are the silk ones I’m talking about:

Mine always ended up picking up the smell and never losing it
The plastic ones are a lot better in my opinion:

Yah.. I have those silk ones. Got them at the dollar store. So its not about the cost, just seems like a waste to keep buying new ones and throwing them out though. Probably switching over to full plastics unless I can come up with a solution. My BP seem to really like climbing around in them and under them (and obviously pooping on them too lol) though so will be nice to at least keep some of them

Hey-o! My dude loves to climb and hide in his plants too and they are full plastic so I dont think he/she would mind you switching. Also, you can clean the plastic ones with bleach as long as you rinse them very well from what I have read, but someone may want to second me on that one.

Might try soaking in a little water with either white vinegar or baking soda (not both together), as either one removes smells from laundry. The problem is that
silk is far more porous than plastic, so it IS harder to wash out, & the silk may also fall apart (it's not always "washable").

I'd go easy on the bleach...there must be absolutely NO smell remaining, as it's very irritating & toxic to reptile lungs. You can use what you normally use to
clean the cages (ie. F10, or chlorhexidine), but neither one specifically is designed to remove scent, however disinfection helps. To me, using bleach is an act
of desperation, as it's so hard to remove the fumes...I'd only use it for major disinfection of cages after a known sick snake (or like if you bought a used cage).

Vinegar or lemon juice will usually do the trick on plastic when it comes to stains and smell.

I soak them in Vinegar if it’s really bad for at least 24 hours! If it’s not that bad then even a few hours has helped de-stink my reptile decor

One trick I use to get rid of the smell of poop from my tubs is rinse in cold water. Or maybe soak them also this isn't a guaranteed method but it should help at least.

I agree with the last few post here that recommend vinegar. That's what I use and it definitely works. You should give it a shot and see what you think
