Very interesting afternoon at the Atlanta Repticon on Sunday. Everyone is just going about their business, enjoying the beautiful animals and interesting people when suddenly, a thousand cell phones all get a tornado WARNING alert at the same time. That in itself was quite surreal and somewhat deafening, but when I stepped out of the building and looked to the southwest, you could see what the threat was.
In all fairness, it never did fully organize into a true tornado. The approaching dark gray mass was evident though and went from the sky to the ground. As it got closer, you could actually see the rotation of the clouds. A bit unsettling to be right in the path, especially when your only shelter is a 20,000 square foot metal Butler building on a slab. As an added bonus, between the storm and the building were a considerable number of parked vehicles and trailers, all of which would have made for some nice projectiles had the storm been serious.
Was anyone else there and what was your take on it?
