    Too big of a tub?

I am gearing up to buy my first BP and bought a tub which is big enough for an adult. I had intended to use a divider of sorts to halve the size of the tub for a juvenile and then remove the divider as it got larger. But now I'm wondering if I should have just bought a smaller tub. The dimensions of the one I have are 19"L x15"W x12"H (46qt, but it's pretty deep instead of long.)
I would be using a hard plastic sheet like PVC as the divider and potentially use small PVC tubes as backing if the little bugger decides it wants to push on it a lot.
I do have literally everything else I need for the enclosure, 2 tiny hides and 2 medium hides, heating pad, thermostat, water bowl, etc. and I bought a couple dollar store pillow cases that I cut up to make a sort of darkening drape for the enclosure since it's going to be sitting close to my PC as it's nice and warm in my room due to the electronics and no central AC. I mostly use headphones so noise won't be too much of an issue except for my own voice. I can include pictures later if it would help get an idea for anyone who would like to help. Currently taking a 15 minute break from cleaning up around the house.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Too big of a tub?

I moved my juvenile BP into a 48x24 enclosure with no problems. The key is to have cover and things to break their line of sight. As long as it is cluttered up really well, I think he would be fine. You can get a bunch of fake plants and vines at dollar store or crafting stores. From my research and limited experience with my guy big wide open spaces stress them out. So as long as you fill up the big space really well there shouldn't be any problems.

It essentially depends on the animal, your experience, and whether issue arise or not, if issue arise such as stress, failure too feed than yes the tub may be too large and downsizing temperorarley can help get the animal back on track.

If you pay attention to your animal you will know what works or not, and it's not a one fits all, one might do well in something large while the other does not.

So the key is be in tune with your animal.

Mmk. I'll try clutter first, then downsize if that does not work. Should I include the larger hides as well to help clutter? Maybe put the smaller hides inside the larger ones? They're single piece molded plastic reptile hides from Reptile Basics so easy to move/clean. I guess I won't entirely know until I get the critter. Going to prepare the area and get the container set up to get reads on temp and humidity tonight/tomorrow and then, hopefully, next week go shopping for my first python
I've got this place for reference if anything goes bad. So glad a place like this exists for new owners to freak out about nothing and everything.

No you want the hides to be snug, hides should fit a snake like a shell fits a turtle this is what makes them feel secure, if the hides are to big the snake will feel insecure.
