Heating ambient temps in room

We have set our juvenile bci up in our office (different room from my corns for quarantine) and I'm trying to come up with a way to heat the office without heating the whole house. I don't want to turn the thermostat up for the whole house because we like it cool, however I'm finding that the heat mat and the ceramic heat bulb which are on thermostats are on 90% of the time because of how cool the room is. I would like to heat just this room so the mat in chb isn't working so hard. I'm thinking either a space heater or a baseboard heater. Does anyone have experience in this area? Any advice?

*he's currently in a exoterra 36 x 18 x 18 so I know the fact that it's glass makes it difficult to control the temperatures… when he outgrows the exoterra we plan on building an enclosure that's better at maintaining heat/humidity..

When I heated my old small snake room, I used a space heater to keep my ambient temps level. Brand I used was delonghi.
You could also try putting foam around the back and sides of the glass exoterra to help hold the heat in from your existing heating elements.

This past winter when it was so bitterly cold outside that the heat pump couldn't keep up (heat pumps just suck below 15*F, add in the high winds and the heat practically poured out of the house), I put one of these in each snake "area". Some rooms with snakes on my first floor don't have doors that can close, and still those portions of the house still stayed toasty while the rest of it dropped down to 60*F.

Yeah I think lots of types of foam would work, even styrofoam like the kind that insulates shipping boxes.
I was thinking more like a roll foam like this:

This is what I’ve used for close to ten years. Seems the price has gone up but not by much. I think originally spent $40-50 at Lowe’s on this same heater

The oiled filled heaters seem to be used quite often... why these over a standard space heater? Are they more energy efficient?

I've used a space heater for years. If they're in their own room, it's as simple as keeping the door closed (and possibly blocking off the bottom on especially cold days).


I currently use ceramic heaters, but I've used an oil-filled heater in a bigger room. It needs air circulation to properly heat, but the ceramics are a bit better at pushing the heat out vs oil-filled in my experience.


For the most safety, pair the space heater with a large enough thermostat to support it.

As far as I'm aware it's because they are less of a fire hazard.
