Rack temps question
Ok I've found something else to stress myself out over.. lol
I've realised how much the temperatures vary in my small herp room. I have the space heater set to 83 degrees. I used my temp gun to measure temps on the floor on one side of the room (the heater is kind of in the middle) and it read 75 degrees. If I read a shelf up higher it ranges up to 82 degrees (the ceiling measures 84)
If I have a thermostat for a rack, how do I set it so that it doesn't freeze the bottom snakes, or cook the top ones? I can't afford a thermostat for each level at this point..
I'm stressing out because my dumerils with a RI is on the floor level.. I have two UTHs on her, but parts of the tub could be only 75 degrees.. not sure what I should do.

Re: Rack temps question
Get a fan in there.
Moving the air around will prevent stratification of temperatures.
Also, fresh air moving around the room is a good thing for your snakes.

Ok.. I will do my best to find a free outlet! lol
My mom will roll her eyes when she sees that I took my fan from my bedroom and put it in for the snakes.

Re: Rack temps question
I use 2 box fans in each room at opposite ends .... one on the floor, one up on a shelf close to the ceiling.
Temps are always the same on the floor as they are at the top of the racks anywhere in the room.

Re: Rack temps question
Those fans don't rotate, right? (mine does) Since I only have one fan now, which way should I point it you think?

Re: Rack temps question
No, they don't ... but rotation is good
If you can, I would mount it as close to the ceiling as possible and as directly over the top of the space heater as you can ... so as the hot air raises off of the heater, it is circulated through the room.

Re: Rack temps question
Ok I'll try to get them close together if I can. Darn heater keeps shutting off because it overloaded the circuit (was on the same circuit as the fridge and microwave) not sure what outlets would be safe to put the fan on.
