humid hide

do bp's like having humid hides in their enclosure? if so, do i replace my normal hide on the hot side with it? thanks for info.

They "enjoy" humidity, if that's what you mean. If you can't or don't wanna keep the ambient humidity up throughout the whole cage, you can use a humid hide so the snake can choose to use it whenever it feels it needs some humidity. I wouldn't replace it with a main hide though, as too much humidity can cause health problems, and if it's on a damp or wet surface for a long period of time, it may develop scale or belly rot. The idea is to use the humid hide as an extra hide for the snake to soak up some humidity, yet still choose between the main hides on the warm and cool side to thermoregulate when it needs to.

so keeping the humid hide in the enclosure constantly is bad? where would i place it? i presume that i should put it over the heat pad...

I myself wouldn't say keeping it in the enclosure constantly is bad. You can keep it in there and let the snake choose to use it whenever it feels it needs humidity. I just don't think it'd be best to replace a regular hide with it, as the snake would have to use it more often than it might want to just for a hide and to thermoregulate. Most just use it as an additional hide for humidity needs. So, I'd have the regular warm and cool hide(s), then the humid hide somewhere else in the enclosure for the snake to use whenever it needs to. Although I myself find it easier to just spray a spray bottle in the enclosure a few times a day and keep the humidity in the whole cage.

As for putting it over a heat pad, I don't think it's necessary. Depending on how you make it(usually damp sphagnum moss and a tupperware container), it should produce all the humidity itself, no need for the heat pad(I'd think being on a hot spot would dry it up faster..not sure though).
