    New Model Reptile Basics RHP?

I was just browsing on RBI's site and noticed that they have a new version of the RHPs. (Sizes 40w to 120w according to the site)

They're making them out of noryl now according to the website and the surface looks less plastic-y in the pictures for those sizes.

Does anyone know anything about this new material or the new design on these panels?

Nope I haven’t heard. I just ordered another RHP but I go threw Pro Products. Id hate to buy a RHP that has changed material and now has no history from the manufacturer. Of course they all started like that but I’m funny about reputation especially on a heating device or material we/animals have direct contact with.

Re: New Model Reptile Basics RHP?

I only have one RHP, and it is a pro products one. I'm in Texas and can keep my house warm enough that UTH and insulating PVC caging is generally plenty to keep ambient temps up for 77-78 in the winter, so I haven't needed to get any additional RHPs. The one I have isn't even really necessary, to be honest.

I'm mostly curious what anyone knows about this new material and whether people think it is an improvement over the old design.

    I just checked their site.
Well, interesting. I liked my three old ones just fine - yeah, a bit of shine on the surface, but that never bothered me. As far as I know, the old ones were never branded, just a product that RB sold.

I don't trust Vivarium Electronics products. Had one crappy VE2 t-stat with a mis-aligned plug insert that has always been a pain to get the plug in and out of. Also, ordered several thermometer/hygro's with the VE label, and they weren't cheap. JUNK! The number displays of two were wonky right out of the box (missing pixels, and mostly illegible), and none of them ever agreed with eachother, even close, for humidity.

I like Reptile Basics, and I have been happy with the old style RHP's, but I won't order any more now that they are under the VE label.

How long have you been using your RBI panels and how do you set up your thermostat to control them?

I'd be interested to hear more since I haven't seen anyone claim to have and like them before now; most people only post or repost what appears to be the same 2 or 3 examples where the devices failed severely.

I've never owned anything from VE. I went straight from a jumpstart thermostat up to a Herpstat and haven't looked back. Most of my thermometers are acurite and are usually within 1 or 2 degrees and 2 or 3% of each other across the devices and match up with my temp gun.

How interesting! I've been considering a couple new RHP's.

That sucks you had a bad experience. I have one VE thermostat that's been working great for a few years so far.

IIRC, I have two that are at least three years old, and another bought the year after that. I only use them in the winter. Because my enclosure tops are aluminum screen, I bolt back of the RHP in a 1" thick foam insulation panel, and secure the t-stat probe in between. The foam hangs from the screen top, cinched snugly against it with wire.

I like the inexpensive Accurite probe thermometers too. They have worked for years for me with no display problems, and they all closely agree with other. Recently bought another set of four off Amazon (two new snakes), and a bigger one for the room temp in their quarantine space. All good.

I wish I liked the brand better.

VE t-stats are slightly less expensive than Herpstat, and I think they are much better looking too. The greenish/amber light is less harsh than the blue, and I find the VE easier to set. Setting the Herpstats always has me digging for the directions. Their user interface has never made sense to me.

I bought a Pro Heat RHP but I have yet to recieve it. They are currently on a 2-3 week backorder. I heard the old style Reptile Basics panels can warp. This version 2 probably addresses those concerns.

I emailed Reptile Basics asking for a 18 inch depth enclosure instead of the standard 24 inch model and I was basically told to pound sand that they don’t have time to do custom enclosures. Really? I took my business elsewhere with that attitude because I didn’t ask for anything even remotely exotic.
