Specific question about humidity
Hey gang!
I have a question about humidity in my particular cage. So I have my guy set up in an ap10 and my humidity varies greatly depending on the side of the cage that’s being measured. On the hot side humidity reads 55 with 88 temp, on the cool side it reads 71 with 78 temp. This will fluctuate about 10% as it dries out and I will mist it to get it back up. Now my question is... which of these should I be going off of? I assume the hot side is being dried out hence the lower humidity. Should I make sure the hot side sits between 50-60? Or when the hot side reads around 45 but the cool side is in the 60s, is that fine? I would assume the actually humidity in the cage is somewhere between the two and the hot side is reading low because it’s directly under the RHP. Kinda confused.. thanks in advance!

Re: Specific question about humidity
I feel you. I have both my BCI and my BP in 6X2' Boaphiles. The left side is the hot side with a RHP and Heat tape (the RHP being the air dryer, although not terrible).
For the BP, it's about 88-89F on the hot side and 78-80F on the cool side.
If the humidity reads 60%, for example, on the hot side, it's 67-70% on the cool side.
I try to balance the two. I don't want it too dry on the hot side, or too humid on the cool side.
A few ways to help this.
1. If the bowl is on the cool side, move it to the hot side (this won't completely solve the problem, but should help).
2. Mist the warm side, but not the cool side.
3. Make peace with it and keep the hot side in range and the cool side in range and don't be too picky.
Regarding #3, for Shayna, my BP, I want a 55-60% minimum and a 65-70% maximum (closer to 65% when not in shed). In the summer, the hot side is usually 60-65% and the cool side 70-75%. At this point, I am usually opening the tank vent (on the cool side). This helps lower the cool side humidity and make it closer to 60% hot side and 65-70% cool side.
In the winter, the hot side tends to drop to 45-50% and the cool side to 50-55%. In this instance, I mist (with warm/hot water) 1X a day (I should note I use printless newspaper as substrate) to get the hot side to about 70% and the cool side to about 75%. This immediately begins dropping and averages about 55%/60% hot side/cool side for a 24 hour period.
Basically, for a BP, keep humidity over 55% and under 70% in normal circumstances, if possible, in all sections of the tank. If there are occasional drops or spikes, it's okay. They can easily handle 70-75% for 3-4 days when in shed, so a day here and there isn't a big deal. Additionally, if there is a range in the tank, they don't exactly humidity regulate like they thermoregulate, to the best of my knowledge, but while thermoregulating, they will be in different humidity levels as well.
Long way to go here.
Basic answer.
I would rather your hot side be 55% and your cool side 65% than 45% and 60%. I would mist the hot side a little bit with some warm/hot water (not boiling - tap water). Cold water or room temp water will cool down more coming out of the spray nozzle and drop temps quickly. I use hot tap water - about 120F. It goes into the tank, out of the spray bottle, about 85F. It drops quick when it hits the air.
Sorry for the long response. Feel free to ask for clarification.

Re: Specific question about humidity
Thank you for the thorough response. I did not consider misting with warm water. I have been using room temp. I’ll give that a go over the next couple of days. Also I have been misting the entire enclosure instead of just warm side. Will also start this. Thank you for response!

As long as you humidity is around the right numbers they do not need to be the exact same number on both the cool and hot side. Maybe a humid hide is an easy way to keep a good humidity? Hope this helps

As above PLUS as soon as they go into shed mode start spraying the viv daily ... then as soon as the eyes clear and the colour returns start spraying well - two or three times daily ... you will get a perfect shed each time ..

Yah, my only shed in the new Vic was all rolled up and in one piece. No stuck shed either. Haven’t had too many problems keeping humidity up but I have been concerned with humidity gradient.
I appreciate all of the feedback from everyone.
Humidity is currently 53% on the warm side and 74% on the cool side. And the water dish is directly under the RHP.
