A small red sore has appeared on the top of my ball python's head. It's red and dry like a scab inbetween a few scales, no pus or discharge. I just noticed it today. His behavior is normal and he has no other unusual spots. Any idea what it might be? I might apply some neosporin tomorrow. Is neosporin ok to use so close to the snake's eyes?
The snake is a male, about a 1.5 years old, I've had him for about a year of that time. He weighs 1064 grams. Last shed was on October 13th. Not a great shed, came off in pieces, but it all came off. He has been on a bit of a fast. Last meal was a small F/T rat on September 18th. I offer ever two weeks but he seems uninterested. Hasn't lost any weight so I haven't been to concerned.
His enclosure is a AP T8, heated by a pro panel rph regulated by a herpstat 2. Cool side is at 80, hot side is 88-90, ambient cage temp is 78-80. Humidity is around 50-70%. Substrate is reptichip. I spot clean with a complete change every other month.
I haven't noticed him head rubbing the glass or anything else in the cage. Nothing's really sharp in the cage. I have black plastic hides, cork flats, grape vine, and a few plastic plants in the cage.
