    Bp is never comfortable?

during shed and after feeding my bp uses both of her hides but other than that she roams all day? Here are the details of her enclosure
    32qt tub
    Cold hide is at 78F
    hot hide is at 90F
    air temp is 81F
    humidity stays between 60%-75%
    acurite digital thermometer
temp gun used for floor temps
    dried out cypress mulch
a cave hide for cold and hot sides
heat tape underneath tub with thermostat probe between tape and tub
    waterbowl
    A few fake plants

I spot clean as soon as she leaves me a present and clean the whole enclosure and furniture about every two weeks. She's a 1200g female currently eating medium rats. She always takes her food and has no history of sickness. Her poops are healthy aswell as her urates. I don't know what to do! The only thing I can think of is blocking some light out of her enclosure but that's about it.

I'm no expert, my uneducated guess would be that giving her house a full clean so soon she is constantly examining parameters because it new to her everytime you remove her smell. When a snake smells itself I would think it would feel more comfortable. I could be way off...

    Hmmmmm.

    A few questions:

    1. Can she fit comfortably and snuggly in both hides?

    2. When you take ground temps on the hot and cool side, are you lifting the hide to get the temp in the hide?

    3. How often are you checking temps with the temp gun? Could it be hotter during the day?

    4. How often are you feeding her a medium rat?

It sounds to me like temps or humidity are off (although what you say sounds okay, although 75% is a little high for a BP not in shed) or she's hungry.

The only other thought I had is about the cleaning of the tank. When you clean the whole tank, does that include fresh substrate?

Any clarity you can give on the above would be helpful, but I too am not sure what's going on.

    Are you giving her a day/night cycle? 12 hours day/12 hours night/dark?

As you seem to know, BP's often come out and roam at night, but not during the day so much.

Good luck and keep us in the loop.

    1. Yes and theyre exactly the same hide
    2. I lift both up and push some bedding aside when I take her hot hide temps
    3. I've been checking a few times a day to see if maybe that was the case but the temps stay the same
    4. I feed her every 7 days.

I do give her fresh bedding when I clean the whole enclosure. i'll make sure to lower the humidity! It usually only stays around 70% when I first put in new bedding.
i don't change the temps for night and day but obviously it is darker at night than in the day from the window across the room.

I really want to figure out what's wrong she shows no signs of being sick and she hasn't been irritable when handling. She's actually quite a fearless girl and has never balled up with me

Could just be an odd duck! Seriously, I am not sure what's going on with her.

I hope others chime in with ideas too.

Keep us in the loop if anything changes.

    Re: Bp is never comfortable?

Tagging onto the smelling their territory keeping them more used to their home, maybe alternate when you clean some of the decor?

Like... clean only hides 1 cage clean day and leave the rest of the decor alone. Then next cage clean in 2 weeks clean the rest of it but not the hides. Leave something that smells familiar at each cage clean.

I'm not sure how much that may help. Maybe the cage is dark enough to seem like dusk during the day and she is coming out to explore early.

It sounds like your husbandry is dialed in, you say she's eating well and seems in good health, maybe she's just a bit more active than some BPs. How long have you had her and do you have a picture of your snake and setup?

    Re: Bp is never comfortable?

Hopefully this pic you all! Sorry it's dark, I have her in the darkest corner of the room. I'm going to block out some light and see if that helps at all and try some of the cleaning advice I've been given.

    Re: Bp is never comfortable?

I posted a picture of my enclosure but I just realized I forgot to answer your question! I've had her for about 1 year and 5 months but she was 4 months old when I got her. She ate the week she came home and has been a complete rat monster ever since. I'd assume if she were that stressed she wouldn't eat? But she eats for me every time so maybe she'd take her food no matter what? I'm not sure.
