Herp room temp
For you guys that keep herps in their own rooms, what air temperture do you try to keep in the room?
Just wondering because I just put a beardie setup in my 'snake' closet and the ambient air temp has jumped from 80 to 84. It made me wonder what room temp you guys keep your snakes at? Also, how do you control the room temp(home type thermostat, commercial grade thermostat, etc.) and what are the mechanics behind it (like does the individual ac unit kick on when it gets to hot, a room heater when too cool, or is it run through central air)?

Re: Herp room temp
I keep mine at 84-85 durning the day and it drops to 82-80 at night, when the beardie lights kick off been running like this for over a year and every one is healthy and active.

Re: Herp room temp
Thats the only thing that kinda has me worried about this new setup...when the beardie lights kick off it drops from 84 to 80....is that 4 deg night drop strong enough to initiate a breeding responce and cause the bps to go off feed? My warm side stays a constant 94-95 but the air temp and cool side have a 4-5 deg day/night difference now.

Re: Herp room temp
During the spring/summer/early fall, some of my snake rooms (like the baby room) get up to 88 - 90 during the day.
This time of year, 82-84 for the non-breeders.

Re: Herp room temp
My room is at the same range others have mentioned 80-85 in the summer months with temp meters in two places in the room. On really hot days it has gotten up close to 90. There are two windows in the room, one on the north side and the other on the east side so it does get some sunlight which helps(?) with inside room temps. We do try and regulate it some by opening the windows or the door to the room if it gets to hot. Otherwise the room is pretty much "sealed" off.

Re: Herp room temp
My room is anywhere from 77-84. Depends if I am spending a large amount of time in there. If I am in there I generally open the AC vent so I dont die!

Re: Herp room temp
I keep the snake in my bedroom, and it is usually 75 degrees in there. The tank stays at 87 - 90 in the hot side and 80 in the cool side without too much trouble.
But that brings up a question though ... I like to make sur my lights are off around 8PM so Allister can feel like it's night time. But I do a lot of work on my PC, and the monitor gets pretty bright, only bright enough so that I can see the keyboard but still ... and Allister can see the monitor from his terrarium. That doesn't disturb him does it? He doesn't act like it does ... but I was wondering.
Yeah, new ball python ownership can give you a little OCD lol!

Or they can just bring out those hidden OCD tendencies. I wouldn't worry too much about the extra monitor light.

Re: Herp room temp
i keep my room around 82 deg. it has a space heater controlled by a digital house stat for heat. for cooling i regulate the ac vent to that room. you could use a ranco or a helix to work an oil filled heater.
