Humidity wont get up past 40%!!!!!
I cant seem to keep the humidity up in my ball pythons tank 40g long. It stays at about 40% she's been shedding for 2 1/2 weeks now (4 months old) she eats fine. I bought green moss I have two different things in her tank with green moss and I bought a mister that's set on a timer to spray directly at the moss on the hot side. Temp is fine hot side stays at 90-95 degrees and cool side stays around 86 degrees. This also makes me worry about my pastel vanilla (1 year old) who has a 20g long tank with a little bit of moss that I spray 2 times a day. his tank sits at 90 degrees and 40% humidity too. I just want to make sure they're comfortable.
I have 3 friends with normal ball pythons and they've never worried about humidity and don't even track what its at and they're snakes are 10 years old.
please help

Firstly, a 40 gallon tank is waaaay to big for a 4 month old Ball Python. She should be in a shoe box size plastic tub. Also, your temperatures are a little too high. You should cut the hot side temperature down to 87 degrees and the cool side to 78-ish... What are you using for heat? Are you using a thermostat? Is moss the only substrate you're using? I would recommend a couple layers of paper towels under the moss. Unfortunately, glass aquariums are all the way around horrible for maintaining consistent heat and humidity. If I were you, I would plan on using appropriate size plastic tubs until they have reached adulthood. Then if you want them to be in display type enclosures, you can build/purchase proper 4' x 2' x 12" display enclosures...

There are a few ways to up humidity. One of the most common ways is to cover the majority of the screen lid on glass tanks. I personally use 1/2" foam board insulation to wrap the back, sides and top. It helps immensely with humidity.
A substrate change may help to, but we'll need to know what you're using for substrate.
Also, 95 is a bit too hot. 92 is the highest suggested temp. I personally never go above 90.
Cool side temps can be dropped to about 78-80 as well.
VERY IMPORTANT: ARE YOUR HEAT SOURCES REGULATED BY A THERMOSTAT???

i figured that out after i bought evryting for her. i have a year old ball in a 20 long. i thought about switching them since hes bigger. i just got him yesterday so he hasnt been in there long, i dont want to handle him yet since hes stressed. im using a heat lamp with a night time bulb for both tanks. I have a thermostat on both sides of the tank that reads both temp and humidity. I have aspen bedding with 2 bowls of moss on each side. I also have a uth that im not using it doesn't work with this big of tank plus shes almost always up on the plants I have on the walls of the cage.

im using aspen bedding right now for both tanks. and when you say regulated do you mean that I can control temps directly with them? because I don't. I have 2 on both sides of the tank that tell me temps and humidity tho. the temp on the hot side is almost always at 90 but very rarely gets to 95 I added that to make sure it was ok so ill watch it closer from now on. again I think I might switch her to the tank that's half the size shes in now. just afraid of stressing them out too much. I understand she might be stressed with a tank this big.

Using a different substrate will go a long way with raising humidity. A coconut coir substrate like eco earth is what I use. I personally blend eco earth and Repti bark and have used it for years.
And you're confusing thermoMETER with thermoSTAT.
Thermometers only read temperatures. Thermostats control it. Just like the ones in houses. You set the thermostat to the desired temperature and it prevents dangerous heat spikes which can cause serious burns or worse to your snake. Heat spikes can even kill snakes.

What kind of hygrometer are you using incidentally ?
Maybe one 'similar' in 'looks' to this gadget ?
