Another Rack Question Thread
I know, I know, there is a ton of these already. I've looked around a bit, though, and it seems that mainly, I only find tiny bits and pieces of what I need. Recently, i've been finding myself on Morph Market nearly every other day, looking and browsing around. I want to get another BP, probably a nice morph this time around, but don't have a ton of room for another bin on my dresser, so I've been looking around at rack systems. Maybe i'm missing something, but what are some of the main things I should always be taking into account with racks? I've mostly been watching dimensions, max bin size, heating, etc, but is there anything else I should be keeping an eye out for?
Also, been looking at the V-70 3 tier from Cserpants, does anyone have any experience with that rack? Would be nice to get some extra info.
Edit: Also Looking at Vivarium Electronics thermostats for when/if I upgrade to the rack as an alternative to herpstat, any idea if these are good quality as well?

I have both, a VE-200 and two Herpstat 1's (one of the Herpstats is on my incubator). The VE is a quality product but I prefer the Herpstats. It just seems that they hold a closer temperature....less varience. The one on my incubator will hold that large cabinet within .1 degree and the one on my adult rack varies only .3 degrees when the air conditioning or heat kicks on.

Re: Another Rack Question Thread
I have never had issues with any of my Herpstats and have various models. If you're considering something as small as a 3 rack system, Id really consider making your own. You really dont need to be exceptionally handy to pull it off well. Id of course suggest having the new rack set up before the new additions and probably just use it as your qt in a different room from the rest of your snakes.

A 3 rack system at CSerpents will cost you $310.00 (including shipping)... For around the cost of the shipping alone ($65.00) you can build your own melamine rack. They are very simple to build, require very few tools and very little skills and they are much higher quality. For maybe only $50.00 more you could build an even nicer one out of PVC. Lowes/Home Depot will cut all of the pieces to size for you right in the store and all you have to do is drill some holes, screw it together and install your heat tape when you get home. Most of these commercially available racks only come with 4" heat tape as well. I don't feel that is really a large enough heat source for an adult snake. I use 12" heat tape on my 41 qt. racks and 6" heat tape on my 28 qt. racks. The general rule of thumb is, the heat tape should cover about 30% of the length of the tub. So, i'm not sure why these companies are only using 4" on most of the commercial racks...
I'm using 3 different Vivarium Electronics VE-100 thermostats on 3 separate 10 tub racks (2 - 41 qt. racks + 1 - 28 qt. rack) and i've never had a problem with any of them. I have a 4th one hooked up to my incubator as well, but I haven't used it yet...
