    The Hunter in them...

It seems that all of my snakes have their own hunting/hunger rituals....

I was hoping some of you guys would share your snakes habits or actions on or around feeding day...

Here is my one boy thunder. He loves getting up in this tree on or near feeding day... he perched atop and just looks and waits as if to say the view is better up here... NOW FEED ME!!!

    Re: The Hunter in them...

Tonight is feeding time! We thaw in plastic baggies so feeders stay dry, let them heat up a bit under a heat lamp where we keep the snakes, then blast the nose with a hair dryer one by one.

Clark: Out trolling around as I write this. He's a very eager eater as long as he lands on his first strike. If he misses it's like he gets embarrassed and takes forever to try again.

Sunny: Good eater but you usually have to stroke his side with the mouse to get him interested.

Mushu (corn snake): Polite little garbage can. Opens mouth and graciously accepts pinky.

Memphis: ??? Offering her a F/T rat pup for the first time tonight! We'll see how she does.

My bull snakes will persistently cruise the front of their enclosures when they're hungry. My Olive and a couple of my carpets will strike at the glass to let me know it's feeding time.

    The Hunter in them...

I thaw out the rats in the same room as the snakes.
Flame is a rat-murdering binge-eating psycho and she will look like a raging bull upon the scent of rodents..
Chuck is a shy baby and stays in his hide, I have to coax him out unless he is starving.
Kaos is also shy, but a fierce hunter upon the scent of rodent. She likes to the take the high ground and climb up on her hides, ready to rain death upon her prey.

Kali is really shy around humans, and other large predators and she is difficult to feed thawed. I’ve gotten pretty good at feeding thawed, but it is tempting to feed her live, because that way she can hunt without me around.

mine just stare at me expectantly through their tub walls. Literally, all 37 that are in tubs.

Pictures peeks out from under her log, kat eyes us through the tank, and cara eyes us from her hide. The second her nose is pointed our direction we know shes hungry.

Tres doesnt do anything and Heavensby strikes like a maniac.

    Re: The Hunter in them...

Maze wanders her enclosure for a few days before feeding day. If I take her out for a handling session, she'll go back into hiding for the rest of the night.

On feeding days, however, she likes to take up this position. She's always liked striking from above.

My tanimbar scrub python flails rapidly against the front of the cage when it's feeding time, up and down! Looks really crazy haha

My GTP reaches forward continuously until her nose hits the glass.

Dumeril's boa just slithers left and right along the front of the cage, very slowly.

Jack does nothing in particular. He's always doing something or other and he's even never struck at his food before. He only eats if I place the food in front of him and leave.

The ball pythons all have their own habits too- Drizzle reaches forward quickly and seems constantly ready to eat. Yukon also reaches up and up. Cake just pokes his head out of the hide.

Tapioca is often either on his basking ledge waiting or sticking his upper body out of his hide waiting. Sometimes he'll still be in his hide but as soon as he catches a WHIFF of his rats heating up....

He just COMES READY OR NOT

He just looses all definition of personal space on feeding day lol. This boy barely gives me time to even GIVE him his rat.
