Radiant heat panel issues
Hello all, I have two identical 48x12x15 pvc enclosures that heating with Reptile basics RHP. I have them regulated by a spyder robotics herpstat 2. Im running into issues with one of the panels not functioning as it should. One of the RHP is programmed to run at 85 degrees and I get a great hotspot of 90. The second RHP is set at he same temp and it will not reach and or stay at the programmed temp. It seems as if it may be getting to hot and then the internal safety shuts it down. My thermostat will read 74 degrees at the warmest with 100% power usage while the RHP is cold. Ive had my probe in two spots with similar results. Ive had it suspended 3 inches from the center of the RHP and ive had it fixed to the side of the enclosure 1/2 way between the RHP and the floor. Both senarios provide the same results. Ive contacted reptile basics and I was told to place the probe in the center of the RHP suspended from the enclosure. All my temps are checked with a temp gun and my room stays at around 70f.
Has anyone else run into a similar problem and if so how can I fix this. As stated before i have two identical set ups and only the one is failing me. I did have about 2 weeks of successful temps with both set ups before the issue started.

it sounds like your second RHP, teh one that can only gets up to 74degrees broke. remove your animal from the enclosure, unplug the RHP from the t-stat and run it unregulated. if your t-stat can't get it warm enough at full power, can it get past 74 w/o? u can try that RBI suggested, but it's only like what an extra 6inches of suspension from your original probe placement but i think your RHP broke after 2weeks.

Ive unplugged the RHP from my thermostat and ran it unregulated and achieved a temp in the 80’s. Does this mean my RHP is defective when regulated or could it be my thermostat?

If the surface of your second RHP only reaches 80 degrees, contact Reptile Basics for a replacement. They are reasonable with warranty care.
If however it is reaching the temp they get unregulated when you plug it in directly and not through the herpstat, then you have your second probe on the herpstat that is regulating it placed wrong or the settings configured wrong.
