    Food strike due to weight

    Hello Everyone!

    So Pua hasn’t eaten.....for 3 weeks
The first 2 weeks Pua was in shed, and I thought it was because of that. Now that Pua is done and still isn’t eating, I’m pretty sure he’s on a food strike.
He shed brilliantly. And his husbandry are correct(90-92 degree hot side, 80 degree cool side, humidity 60%) and be doesn’t seem to have mites, burns, excess mucus, or anything of that sort. The only thing I can think of is his weight. He’s about 1003 grams at the moment, and the last time he ate he was at 1125. Is he just too fat maybe? I know males are supposed to be smaller than females, but how much smaller? Is weight a possibility for him turning down food?

For Perspective: I have a 7 year old male at ~1200 grams.
All of my breeder males haven't eaten since December-so a three week fast-no worries.

Non-eating and fasting is a normal BP thing. Three months from now you can make a note of it.

Do you just let them be for 3 months? Do you keep offering until they take?
How do you know they’re ready to eat again?

Since I have a group of snakes. Food gets offered every week, and whatever gets turned down in five minutes-immediately goes to a different snake.

I would only offer once every 2 weeks unless I saw signs the snake was restless.

In the old days when I had one snake: after a rejection I would put my f/t rodent in the refrigerator and pray they would eat it in a few days on another try-otherwise I was out of luck and the crows got a snack.

You can try offering every couple weeks. I have 4 out of 5 males not eating, two just shed. The others are leaving sperm plugs in their water dishes, one on an almost regular basis, lol. If your husbandry is on, they will start eating again. I just bought 200 jumbo mice for the upcoming “summerfeast”. The two that just shed haven’t eaten since Christmas. They are over 1400 to 1600 grams. Hang in there.
