Pastel Banana man brings me back in

I roamed and posted on these forums over a decade ago when I had my own breeding projects going. Back then genetics were much more expensive and I could barely keep up before life forced me out of the hobbyist breeding AND keeping. I went about 7 years without any reptiles... but that ended a few weeks ago. The difference in prices on these eye candy snakes made it hard for me not to want something pretty to look at so I caved and went to the Denver Repticon expo last month and got this sub-adult male Pastel Banana (labeled). He's already taken down 3 mice handily and I couldn't be happier. I was split between him and a much smaller, more expensive Spied boy, but I couldn't resist the lavender colors and I'm also fond of the speckling. Let me know what ya'll think!

    Welcome back to the game!!

Banana isn't my flavor, personally, but I'm glad to hear you're able to get back in the hobby. I took some years off as well, got back in a few years ago. A lot has changed, that's for sure...

Beautiful, and not a bad start if you ever want to breed again, I love almost anything with banana and pastel is a good cornerstone to any breeding project.

Thank you, but I can assure you that I won't ever breed him or any other snake. Been there, done that. I had both pastel and spider projects back in the day but never got to the bees as planned. Also had some Het albinos but never got to pairing them up. That was a past life. Now I'm just and old gray haired man with a pretty snake to look at.

Congrats! Banana / Coral Glow is one of my favorite morphs. What's really fascinating is that it is the only known morph that is sex-linked. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, but apparently if your male comes from a male Banana parent it will be a male maker. And if one of the parents was a female Banana then it would be a female maker. And if both parents were Bananas you would get a 50:50 ratio of male and female offspring if you bred him. And if one of the parents was a Super Banana then you would get a 50:50 mix. And even with male makers you can still get a few female hatchlings, but the majority will be males. I think I got that right LOL.

I have a male Coral Glow 100% het pied that I'm breeding with a couple females this year. I didn't ask the breeder if it was a male or female maker, it should be interesting to see what ratios I pop out.

I was at that Denver Repitcon too and I think I saw some young lady buy that Spider Pied, I'm pretty sure it was the only one in the whole place. I noticed it because I have a few Spider Pied combos that I'm breeding too.

Yea I don't fully understand it myself besides the general idea of most bananas are male unless they come from a female maker or wtvr. I think it was the only Spied there, from John Griffis of Exotic Ball Pythons, which is also where this guy came from. I tried haggling down $50 and he ended up asking to flip a coin for it but I'm not a gambling man. Got this guy for half the price of the spied and I'm pleased.
