    Retic Question

I've heard that reticulated pythons are aggressive and defensive. In your experience, what's their temperament? Just curious

Defensive when young but usually they grow out of it quickly, sting feeding responds so do your research as to know how to handle them, and males can be aggressive during breeding season so watch out there. But for the most part they are chill cool snakes, I love my tic over royals all day

    Re: Retic Question

I only have one. Received her yesterday. I purchased her for her great attitude. It is like every other animal (people included LOL) depends on the animal and how you raise it.

    Re: Retic Question

I have 2 with another coming shortly. They both are completely different, my Tiger Goldenchild male was extremely defensive when I first got him would strike at my hands and anything that came near him. He has since calmed down really well (only 2 weeks) and now is my absolute favorite snake I have. He is extremely active when he is out and just has this look on his face that makes you think he is the just a little sh*t head, but I love the little guy. My other is a Sunfire Lav female that is calm as can be. Has never shown any defensive behavior she has never struck a single time. I've only had her for about 2 weeks though so that could change. Also, have a female burm that was hissy and defensive when she was young, now super calm. Just goes to show you every snake is different and with handling they will all typically calm down nicely.

    Re: Retic Question

I have one, almost a year old now.

When I just had her I had no clue how the temperament of a retic is like. I just saw her and had to get her.

I got her as a baby and I would just pick her up, the first few weeks were fine in quarantine. I went in with just my hand and picked her up no problem. Sometimes a little twitchy so I pulled back fast (I'm a scaredy cat).. I put her in her new home, everything was fine still. And then a month later or so, striking the glass where I walked, breathing heavily and just so fiercely striking the glass... I started tap training her and now we both have this ritual of me opening the glass door, bring in the hook and tap her, and then she knows she can chill out because there is no food involved and I can just scoop her up and handle her.

When I handle her she's calm as can be and rolls up in a ball and chill out I love her very much, it's a huge difference between a rat snake and a retic. Quite interesting

My guy is a goofball. The only snake i have seen that likes attention. He isnt defensive or anything but he does have a food drive that is off the charts. I honestly hate feeding day with him because he is so dramatic about it.
