    Becky's BCI Rauri

Just a little update on Rauri, the rescue BCI we are fostering for Becky (SatanicIntention).

His thermal belly burn from that stupid large heat rock is healing beautifully. Thank goodness it was not very advanced when he came to us last week but between the heat rock and a far too wet substrate he was headed for a real problem belly.

Becky, he's a truly lovely snake considering all he's been through. A lot more work to handle than a ball python but his temperment is really perfect!

Rauri, which Becky tells me means "red king", is now in blue but when offered a large rat took it with a very impressive strike response. He's definitely NOT a picky eater LOL.

He's in quarantine from the other snakes but getting handled regularily and out for a good crawl around the enclosed front porch with Mike watching over. What an impressive site he is reclining on the old couch on the porch where apparently any smart BCI goes to enjoy peering out the window LOL.

Thanks again Becky for allowing us to care for your Rauri while he gets back on his feet (scales) in preparation for shipping to his forever home.

I love them at that size (around 4-5 feet.) My boy is about that.. and when you take him out, he has to explore everything he comes in contact with.
Glad to hear that the burns are healing; I think that people who use heatrocks, should be made to lie on a giant one themselves, and see how they light being burnt!

    Re: Becky's BCI Rauri

Ugh, I agree Gin! I don't even know why they sell those things. They aren't good for ANYTHING.

Jo, I'm so relieved his belly is looking this good, this fast. Just awesome what a little CARE will do, huh? I mean, seriously, heaven forbid that it takes 2 minutes out of your day, LoL.

I can already tell I'm going to love him. He sounds like he has personality up the wazoo! I hope the people at my school like him, because that is where he is being quarantined for the next 2.5 months. And from what you described, he sounds like he's going to be beautiful with all of those salmon scales on his sides. Pretty Pretty!

It's also awesome that I have found a meat rabbit breeder(hopefully) and should be getting alot of babies at a good price. Mr. Ruari should get fat and happy on those bunnies. Large rats are just so expensive around here, even at shows... Craziness. At least rabbits sell by the pound usually, and the ones I want probably aren't even a pound. Whee!

Again, thank you Jo and Mike. I really don't think I know any two sweeter, more caring people. If it weren't for ya'll, I don't think Ruari would be in a happy situation.

    Re: Becky's BCI Rauri

We're pleased to help Becky and quite honestly kind of figured we'd end up with this snake as the owner never seemed to really know what to do with him or was ever comfortable with his daily needs. Since you were so obviously wanting him it worked out well all around as we just aren't at the point to want a snake of his size quite yet (tho we'd have taken him rather than see him dumped back in the pet store).

His tummy was thankfully caught in time so no lasting damage though it's awful he ever had to have any sort of thermal burn. I spoke to our vet and she's quite pleased with his progress and looking forward to his pre-shipping checkup. We promised we won't bring him in slung over anyone's shoulder lol (she's still recovering from that visit with his previous owner) or ride around with him loose in a car with the windows down (I'm still recovering from THAT!)

He seems very accepting of different folks Becky and is fine around our kids with supervision so he'll probably do pretty good at your school given time to settle in. Doesn't seem anything throws this big ole boy off his food LOL.
