    Do snakes yawn?

Today after I put Lucy in her tank she opened up her little mouth for a second. Not all the way, just a centimeter or so. It looked like a little yawn. I have only seen her do this once before, she opened her mouth all the way to try and loosen the shed stuck on her chin. She does look like she's going into a shed so that's probably it, but it did get me curious.

Yep. They usually do it to realign their jaws after eating. They will sometimes also yawn outside of feeding; their scent glands are located at the top of their mouths, which is where their tongues rub against after they've flicked it. I've noticed when I have mine out, she'll pause and yawn before she goes to explore something.

Excessive yawning, however, can be a sign of respiratory infection, and if coupled with other symptoms (popping noises, stargazing, open-mouth breathing, etc), that merits a vets visit.

Yeah they yawn every once in a while. They will also often yawn after eating to realign their jaws. I love catching my own snake yawning, it's so cute
