    Cool side temp?

    Hello,

I was thinking about the temperature set up and this came across my mind. Heat spot is well heated by the heat tape but how do you measure the cool side? I know cool side shouldn't go below 75 and best around 80 but is that measured by the floor temperature? or just the general air temperature? Like the air temp could be at 80 ish but the floor temp could be lower. What exactly should I measure for cool side temperature?

I prefer to have both the air and surface be at least 77. My room is set at 77 which does the trick.

Yea, setting constant temperature is kind of hard for me, but it doesn't fluctuate a lot. I am planning to insulate my room, hopefully it will boost up my room temp. How do you measure the air temperature? I have temp gun but I think it can only measure surface temperature of something, I do have digital thermostat, hoping it measures the air.

If you track only surface temps and they are within range you should be good.

I have a temp gun and then several digital thermometers in my cages and around the room. Not every cage has one. Just enough to give me an idea of what each is at.

Measure like you are in the tub, over the tape, under the paper.

Don't worry about the paper towel. Once the snake in laying on it the heat will transfer to it. Right now there is an air gap so the paper towel is not hearing up. If you want to test it put something heavy in it and measure under it after it sat there a bit.

I can't tell you how long it will take to reach your set temps but it sounds like it has.

BTW, heat tape is not meant to heat the air and will do almost nothing to raise ambient temps.

The paper towel does not matter. Forget it. The snake will get the heat it needs.

You always monitor the actual surface temp because your snake WILL get to it.

Having your tstat set higher than the hotspot reads is normal. You lose heat through the material it has to penetrate. You seem to have things about dialed in.
