    Bp mouth swollen

    Hi all

So recently I noticed my ball had a swollen upper gum..looked like a fat lip. The one side of his face was swollen as well. So I tried to clean his mouth at home with betadine diluted with water followed by flushing his mouth and then a final rinse with saline solution before applying polysporin. I seemed to have stooped the other side from swelling however not the one side. I did take him to the vet and they instructed me to only rinse daily with saline solution and I have to bring him in every 3 days for an injection of ceftazidime 4 applications. My question is saline solution enough ? Is this a good antibiotic because I cant afford to bring him for a 200 blood culture as I am due any day here. Ive noticed he is soaking in his tub everyday is this appropriate ? Its over a under tank heater so the temp is in the 80s... There is silver antibiotic ointment in it ... His belly is slightly pink I'm assuming a shed is going to happen ? I might sound obsessed but I am just trying to ensure he makes a full recovery lol. Any thoughts ?

Treatment and whether it is necessary or adequate depends on the cause of the swollen mouth which can be anything from hitting the enclosure to hard while striking (I have a few snakes doing that on feeding day when I walk in the room) to mouth injury such as scratch or bite from feeder that turn into an abscess (which require draining etc), to mouth rot etc.

What is the cause of the swelling? Is our vet experienced when it comes to reptiles?

    Re: Bp mouth swollen

I noticed a bump on his nose a couple weeks ago he was pushing the front of the enclosure I did not realize that it was actually upside down which is silly and ive changed that now. Its one of those pvc enclosures .. I took him to a get that is experienced with snakes and reptiles. He seemed to have knowledge in them but I've never had to take a snake to the get before.... Maybe it was him rubbing on the opening trying to push through? I have a female next door to him...separate though.
