    Ball phython tempature problems !

So I have a ball phython who used to have heat bulbs for its main heat source. I have now switched him to a heat pad. The hottest point over the heat pad has a tempature of 91 to 96 degress F. But the cold side ambient tempature was as low as 73 degrees F. So I placed 50w night bulb to get the ambient tempature up on the cold side. I now keep it around 75 to 80 degrees F. But the hot side has an ambient tempature or 74 and 75 F. But the heat pad on the hot side is like I said around 91 to 93 F. I was thinking of placing the night bulb closer to the hot side but I've heard it's dangerous placing a light bulb directly over the heat pad. Is it okay if I place the heat bulb near but not directly on top the heat pad? Of should I leave my set up how it is right now?

You can place it near, but not directly overhead of the UTH. Imo, your setup now is fine.

A properly regulated UTH does little for ambient temperatures.
Are you taking your temps on the substrate or under?
