Post No Wonder His Skin's Stretched!

Remember earlier this week I asked about power feeding because I wanted to make sure I wasn't power feeding Kashmire? And that I was OCD'ing over his scales seeming stretched (his scales look like beads because of the spaces you can see between scales).

So, I decided to measure him tonight again. Assuming the snake measurer software is accurate, Kashmire has grown 2.2" in 8 days!!!!

On 8-24 he measured 18.3" and today (using the same point of reference for measuring against), on 9-1 he measured 20.5"!

Wow!!! No gray eyes yet, but I think he's outgrowing his skin and needs a shed soon or he's gonna pop right out of his skin! LOL

Oh, and I measured using two different pictures from each day (so four measurements) and I get the same measurements for each day!

i read in my ball python care book that skin inbetween the scales is a sign of obesity, which is not healthy for a BP or any snake.

He's anything but fat. He is nice and slim (but not skinny) and has GREAT muscle tone! Believe me, he shocked me tonight with how tight his grip has gotten since I first got him. He was sick when I first got him, had internal parasites and was not thriving. Now that those have been treated, he's growing like a weed!

Here's the picture I took tonight to measure him. Does he look fat or obese to you?

He's beautiful. He doesn't look overweight to me. Maybe he's just making up for when he wasn't feeling too well...

Kash looks wonderful Robin. He may just be going through a growth spurt like our Baby did right around his age. Remember she did that really fast back to back shed thing, only 2 weeks between sheds and I was just amazed. Punkin also has done a fairly quick shed schedule, only 1 month. Perhaps Kash is just growing and catching up from his illness.

Re: No Wonder His Skin's Stretched!

LOL, I'm sort of embarassed that the picture is next to a pack of cigarettes, but I know the pack is exactly 4" long.

I'm thrilled with my guy. His belly's JUST starting to turn pink, so hopefully we'll have a shed in the next few weeks!

That's not a very complimentary picture of him, a little blurry, and I was also using my free hand to keep de-clawed kitty from coming up to sniff him (she's not a hunter at all, just sits and watches spiders other small things crawling across the floor, never touching them. I was more afraid Kash would think her white paw was a mouse! LOL)
