Hello! I am in the process of researching and preparing to get my very first snake! Possibly a ball python or some kind of boa.
I have some questions about keeping multiple reptiles. My bearded dragon is in the middle of the treatment process for coccidia, and so now I'm wondering if this could pose a threat to my future snake. From poking around online I have seen only a few mentions of snakes getting diagnosed with coccidia, but I haven't been able to find the info I'm looking for.
My bearded dragon and snake will be housed in different rooms and I will definitely make sure to wash my hands in between handling them. Enclosures will be kept clean (I am currently using Wipe Out and will continue to use ammonia-based products to make sure the parasites die die die and don't come back). Are there any other precautions I will need to take? For example, if I let my bearded dragon run around on the couch, should my snake not be placed on the same couch later?
Do your recommendations differ between a dragon being treated for coccidia and one that has been cleared? I plan to have my dragon treated and coccidia-free before getting my snake, but I also know that bearded dragons are known to always carry small amounts of coccidia at all times.
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
