Idea??

Hi everyone have an idea would love some input. Im using a 20gallon long right now for an enclosure but I had an idea to insulate it if I wrap black polystyrene in like a vinyl sheet flooring (for look) and use it as a background it should help. Dose this seem safe? Kinda of my own exoterra background.(also using plexi on the top)

I think it should be safe and its always better to cover sides, back and top (for privacy esp).

If you meant to use it on the inside of the tank, be sure NOT to use any tape or adhesive. And you should probably seal all seams, especially along the bottom. The snakes like to do their business in corners and you don't want that seeping behind any walls you create.

Make sure to use products that don't gass off noxious fumes, air out well before using

Thanks zina ill keep all that in mind im still a little hesitant but will see the polystyrene is a foam board at lowes but thats what 3d backgrounds are made of and the vinyl seems fine just worried about the finish

If you're just using flat pieces, you could also put it outside the glass instead of inside. It will insulate just as well. Even better might be to put it outside with about 1/4" gap between the glass and the styrene; that 1/4" air pocket will act as an extra layer of insulation. Then you aren't making the cleaning job any more complicated.

How about put a vinyl or plastic or paper scene background so it looks stylish on the back and sides then cut the foam board to fit the sides and back and tape or silicon glue them in place (not to the vinyl or plastic or paper scene of course). They don't need to be snug to offer insulation. Of course this recommendation is done outside the tank

You can also paint the foam board with a latex paint to a color you want and skip the scene print.
