temp stability

It has been a bit of a challenge getting a stable temp in the tank but I have reached some stability at least now.

Warm side: 95.3F and 40% humidity
Cool side: 83.6F and 63% humidity

I have been using Flukers heat pads and a lamp - changed the lamp from 100W to a 50W zoomed light - and bought a zoomed ReptiTherm of suitable size if I feel a need to change it out with the Flukers (I was planning on side mounting it). I would MUCH rather only use my Exo-Terra moonlight bulb at night and none during day period - too much junk on top of tank.

I also covered about 2/3 the tank with plexiglass and a folded towel beginning on the cool side and leaving 1/3 uncovered above warm side.

I changed the subtrate to Aspen and added a cool side hide.

So far he has no interest at all in the cool side hide and is quite suspicious of the Aspen. I use folded paper towel in the warm side hide instead of Aspen layer. I am also ordering a zoomed thermostat.

Anything I am missing or that signals a prob at this point?

wait until you get the thermostat, you won't get acurrate stability without one.

I am still unclear how the thermostat works in the tank. I have 2 pads one under, and one side. It is still too cool without the lamp on top, but if I leave the lamp on during light cycle it gets to hot in a matter of an hour or so (even after reducing the wattage of the bulb by 50%).

Where does the thermostat come in? How will it help keep the temp up? How can I keep the temp up without the lamp? It is a class tank with mesh lock top.

Sounds like you have cool room temps.. You will probably have to have the lamp or CHE running to get your ambient temps working properly.. A dimmer is probably the better bet for a buld but they will allow the temps to flux with the temps in the room. A "reptile UTH" will not work properly if the temps of the room are too cool.. Flexwatt woudl be a better choice unless you UTH's are exo-terra which is the same thing. Also if the wattage of the UTH is to low then the temps will stay low since it does not have enough power to get to the correct temps.. But like said before a tstat is needed even if it is just for safty

a tstat regulates the heat source by turning them on and off to achieve the desired/set temps. your setup has to be correct also with an adequate heat source for the tank/cage. glass tanks with screen tops lose alot of heat and humidity. you may need to cover the top and get a bigger/smaller heat source.

It is so tempting to change to a rubbermaid or something that holds in heat better. I will work on some changes and see how it goes - I already have plexi on 2/3 of top.
