    Axanthic lines

Is there away to know which line of axanthic I have? Do they all look different? I recently bought a female for really cheap because this guy needed to get rid of her.
He bought her from a reptiles expo a few years ago so I have no clue which line she is and I'd like to breed her with a male axanthic eventually.

it really is hard to tell visually which line of Axanthic u may have. however, i could tell which Axanthic lines are in certain combo's tho. TSK will have more yellow's in Snows for example. i have a VPI Axanthic het Albino approaching breeding weight and she has stayed more black and silvery and hasn't browned out like some of the other lines. i hear this is a characteristic of the VPI line (tho it might also be gettign help from her being het Albino).

i'mm sorry but i think it will be a crapshoot to figure out. even if u do breed her to a male of each line (VPI, TSK, Marcus Jayne, Jolliff, etc. etc.) on a yearly rotation, retained sperm is always a possibility and u may never know who the true father and compatible line is.

maybe others will chime in with their thoughts.

No way to tell and sadly it's one of those things when you buy an axanthic you have to know the lineage. If you do not know you won't know what to pair the animal with and people will not purchase an axanthic not knowing the line.

    Axanthic lines are incompatible.

    The best line is VPI

Your only shot is to pair her to each lines at least once, that could mean a lot hard to sale babies, if you can even sell them and several years of work before you figure it out, really a waste of time and money in my opinion, you would be better off starting of from scratch with animals for which you know the lineage.

If you want to SERIOUSLY make it when it comes to breeding, building strong bases by getting QUALITY animals from reputable breeders that keep track of lineage will pay off, picking up cheap animals with little to no info whether regardless of the animal and even more so if it's hypo or axanthic will not.
