    Question about strange behavior

Question. The last two nights Loki has been pressing his face between the bedding and the glass on his tank. It looks like he's trying to rub something off his face yet he's not in shed. He's also been dunking his entire head under water. He had his rat on Tuesday and ate as normal. No RI symptoms. I increased the humidity tonight and it's at 65% it was down to 50% earlier today. Cool side is 80 and hot side is at 97.2 tonight. Hes a pretty good size adult but not sure of his exact weight. He doesn't do this if he's out of his tank. My other bp has never done this before so I'm just a little worried. Any ideas would be great. Also last night I set him in the bath tub for about 5 mins in warm water but he didn't seem to like that too much but he had some poop on his tail and I thought instead of just using a damp cloth that maybe a little soak would do him well. Just plain water with NO soap. thanks!

He's claiming his territory. Its called scent marking. Some don't do it, but some do. It can mean he's really settling in to make it his.

He's very strange in a good way. He seems to just want to be on me at night and as soon as I take the top off his tank he crawls right on to my hands. He seems to love crawling around on my bed lol. He's more content just exploring. My other ball doesn't like attention and she stays in her hide unless she wants food. They are complete opposites. Loki doesn't even ball up unless he's in his hide. It's really funny. I've had snakes ever since I was little and Loki is the sweetest snake I've ever owned!

    Re: Question about strange behavior

I have an adult female and a juvenile who are opposites also. The adult has always been social and explores. The juvenile is almost always in a ball and prefers her hide. Even when I have her out for holding time she prefers to be under my shirt and not out in the big scary world.

I've only had Loki for 3months but I've had Baby since she poked her little head out. 6 years. I also had a corn snake who passed away 3 years ago. I had him for almost 15 years. He was crazy lol. I love my smakes. I'm looking to add another one to our family soon!

Ok ladies.. I have had ball pythons and other snakes for years... scent marking?? I hope you are not being serious....

Cats do rub their faces as a way to scent mark..bc they have glands in their face and can do this....

Snakes do not have the anatomy to do that, do a little research on snake anatomy.

The behavior you are seeing is just typical ball python behavior... some do it...others dont.. just as we are individuals, so are they.

    THANK YOU, Jeanne.
Jeanne is absolutely right. Science proves that BPs CAN NOT and DO NOT do any sort of scent marking.

Also, 97 is too hot for an ambient temp.

    Re: Question about strange behavior

I should add that they don't have scent glands in their face, that doesn't stop them though.
