    is my BP lazy

In my cage i have a hot hide which stays 92 - 94 and a cool hide which stays 82 - 84. i also have a number of fake leaves that hang off the sides of the cage which gives my BP lots of cover. Now lately i have noticed that my BP spends pretty much all of his/her time were ever the temp is 86 - 88 F. I guess she figures this way she can stay in one spot, and not travel the long 6 inch jurney from hot to cool hide. I have however removed the leaves a couple times and she then stays in one hide, and then goes to the next and so on. Is it more healthy for a snake if they are thermoregualting by going from hot to cool and back again, or is it ok that she wants to stay under the leaves were it is 86 or 88 F. I also thought that after snakes ate, they wanted and needed to be in the hotter section to help with digestion, but i have seen my BP on most occasions go to the cool hide, or go back under the leaves.

Relax, your snake knows what it's doing.

My BP has three hides. One cool end, one warm end and one in the middle. He favours the middle hide and completely ignores the other two. Since he's eating well, shedding well, pooing and weeing OK I think he knows best himself. I got a bigger hide for the warm end as he'd well and truly outgrown the smaller one (he moved and it moved too...suddenly I had a tortoise instead of a snake ). He went in it, had a good look at it, shot me a disdainful look and headed back for his favourite hide LOL.

Yeah, Adam got either an e-mail or PM from me saying "Kashmire just ate and he's chilling in his cool side, doesn't he need belly heat??????" and he also told me to relax too, and Kashmire would do all the work! And, of course, he was right, yet AGAIN!!!! LOL

    Re: is my BP lazy

When we upgraded sizes in our hides both the snakes hated them....refused to have a thing to do with the new hides. We got these other black rubber dog dish deals and they are happy, hide using snakes again. I haven't a clue why they hated the other option I tried but hey, who can figure out the mind of a ball python????
