    Herpstat2 Question

Seeing something odd with my newly purchased Herpstat2. Output Mode 1 temp is programmed at 100 and Output Mode 2 temp is programmed at 95 degrees daytime temperatures. After an hour of running, the Herpstat is reading 1: 77.4 100% and 2: 110.5 0%. I'm wondering if it could be some interference with the wires in the back. Any ideas?

    Re: Herpstat2 Question

What are they hooked up to? Have you taken readings with a temp gun to make sure your heating elements are functioning?

    Re: Herpstat2 Question

They are hooked up to two 11x11 Ultratherm UTHs. I've taken some readings with a temp gun and both are heating up. It's almost like the Output Mode 1 doesn't match up with Probe 1 and same for 2. It's reversed.

The tstat probes are taped (black electrical) between each UTH and the enclosure. There's no substrate yet because I just wanted to test the setup. It looks like the overlapping tstat probe wires and the UTH power wire may have created some cross talk / electrical interference. I'll be laying a shallow bed of reptichip after I feel good about the temps.

I guess you could make sure they're separated and see if you get another outcome.

Maybe a pic of the setup would help me to see anything that could be causing it.

If you covered the probe, the actual probe, you may try taping the she just behind it and the tip. Maybe the tape is holding heat.

    Re: Herpstat2 Question

Could possibly be a faulty UTH? If it's receiving full power and never heating up the heat pad might not be working. Do you have a temp gun to get a reading on the interior cage floor?

Ok so here is the issue, I had the same problem. When I taped down the probe, I just used a strip to hold it down. After talking to the owner of Spyder, I did all the troubleshooting. None of it worked. So I taped the probe down this time covering the whole probe to the heat tape. What this did was remove the "air" from being a factor of the probe and was now solely reading the tape. My Tstat says 90.5 and my tape is 90.3 with a gun.

I use gorilla tape. Electrical tape is weak. It's meant to be wrapped to reduce electrical contact not secure anything.

    From the users manual.

"Preferably leave at least a few inches between the probe wires and the AC lines to avoid cross talk/electrical interference issues."

    Probes

Are you sure the probes are in the right output?
