What a nice change of things. They weren't freaking out and running to get a shovel, hoe, or gun to destroy the creature.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

I agree with John, gorgeous black rat snake. Could be Pantherophis alleghaniensis or Pantherophis obsoletus depending on location.
