    Ball python help

Has anyone heard of the mite spray called Reptile Spray. Well on the directions it says to avoid spraying on the face and eyes, but today I was spraying my python and he jerked his head and accidentally caught some spray to his face. He was very jerky after that and rubbed his face a lot on his bedding so I very cautiously wiped his head with a cloth being careful not to scare or stress him because I know ball pythons are very sensitive over their head. But Im worried that I seriously hurt him?

Does it have mites? Is this why you are treating it for mites?

Yeah, he excessively dips inside his bowl and likes to rest there and I usually find a lot of block dots inside his bowl and some on his skin. I left him alone for a few days to see whether its just a phase but because he keeps doing it I decided its better to take care of the issue

I am not familiar w the product you are using unfortunately... do you have paper towels in its enclosure? What bedding are you using, your bedding could make it hard to get rid of mites. Did you purchase this snake from a pet shop in this condition?

Reptile Relief if that is what you are using is not going to kill the mites in the cage. You need to treat the cage as well. The one time i had to deal with mites, I used Provent-A-Mite. Throw the substrate out. use paper towels. Put all the decorations except the hides into a ziplock bag and shoot a shot of PAM into it, seal it and put it in the garage for a couple months. Then every week, soak the snake in a little tub with a drop of dawn dish soap in it to break water tension so the mites drown. While you do that, change out the paper towels and reapply the PAM as per directions. Leave the water bowl out overnight on each night you apply the PAM. Do this weekly for about 2 months. Also spray PAM on a rag and wipe down the outside of the cage especially cables that go into the cage and vent holes as well as the top and bottom rims of the cage if its glass tanks.

After a couple months you should be fine. I still wipe down the bases on my cage stacks once every couple months as a preventative in case i bring home a hitchhiker.
