Frustrated!!s
SO...as you know in my other thread the BP's we got at work came in at 58g and 78g. They were born november 17, 2016. So 7 months later they are at hatchling weight? I saw on Morph Market BP's that came from the same company that supplies our BP's born in april already at 155g. So WHY are we getting BP's so underweight I have to basically nurse them back up to normal weight (which i am totally fine with doing because I love my snakes) before I feel comfortable even selling them. I am so mad right now!!! Why would a company do this??

Did you ask the right questions before buying them?

That's incredibly frustrating. I've hatched out babies at 29grams before so sometimes they come out stupid light depending on a whole bunch of factors - but even if they're picky eaters under 100grams for a 7 month snake at 58 is concerning. It's sounds like it's either been severely neglected OR they've had serious issues with trying to get food into it but even still, I've had babies refuse to eat and eventually you just have to start forcing... regardless, these are things that should have been disclosed to you... :/

They are automatically sent to us at the store. I cannot talk to them as they are a company wide supplier for us. Which is another reason I am so pissed they send us BP consistently under weight but sell them on Morph Market with correct weight.

She eats just fine, no problems with her taking a meal. I have her on Hoppers right now and it takes her a little while but she is a good little eater. She went fro 58g to 71g with one feeding. The other BP sold while i wasnt at work. I checked for mites, dehydration and listened to her breathing as well. No issues i can see other than low weight. Why on earth would snakes be underweight when they supply a major chain, but sell healthy weights on Morph Market. I am so pissed off right now. All i see is neglect before they get to me and I now have to pick up and get them at a healthy weight. Which.....I am happy to do with the little boopitys.

I dont understand. The 'supplier' that supplies your pet shop also sells on Morph Market? I'm guessing you work for a mom and pops pet shop that is buying from local breeders? And buying their 'runts'? I mean I'm not sure who Petco and Petsmart use but i believe most wholesale reptile suppliers dont really care about the animals and the pet shops that buy from them care less as they are buying in bulk so if they even sell 1 or 2 animals, that will pay for the whole lot who can die and they would still turn a profit. I know there is Reptiles by Mack and Vista which is the wholesale part of LLL.
I know a local reptile shop in my area buys local stuff from breeders in the area but she is buying at a 'bulk' price so i would doubt a breeder would be throwing in his 'nice' stuff into the bulk deal. Probably just sells off the normals and hets in bulk and any visual stuff is sold separately for higher prices.

I would imagine the snake would go to a bigger weight with 1 feeding as most hopper mice are about 12g. I know because i have to pay close attention to my baby Pokigron Suriname girl so she doesnt eat too big of meal and puke.
And like i mentioned above, most wholesale reptile vendors dont care really about the animals. It's all dollar signs to them. And maybe they are selling of the healthy weight or visual ones on Morph Market because the pet shop you work at doesnt want to pay the prices they are asking? I know a lot of breeders will sell their normals or stillborns off cheap to people who have snake eating snakes.
And welcome to the world of animal trade. Puppy mills, whole sale reptiles etc, it's pretty much flesh peddling except where as human slavery was abolished for its cruelty and inhumanity, the pet trade isnt so much and even less for reptiles.
