I've had my snake setup in a 20 gallon tank for a few weeks now and it's working well. However, I have a few questions regarding heating. At the moment, I have a heat lamp located in the middle of the tank to help with the ambient temperatures. If I adjust it so that my ambient temps are right on the cold side (78 - 80) it makes the middle of the tank too warm (Over 90). Should I move it to over to the hot side since it where my UTH is currently situated? Also, right now I have my thermometer probe below the substrate centered on my UTH on the glass. The only problem I'm noticing is that I have a hide covering this spot so the probe is sitting in the hide which is making my thermometer read warmer temperatures than the surface temperature actually is. Would you recommend that I move it outside of the hide and if so where? Would anywhere on my hot side work?
