Dropped snake

Last night she lunged out of my hand, and I ended up dropping her about 3-4 feet. She landed on her back. She seems ok, but I feel like the worst person in the world. I'm sure I've ruined her, she'll never trust me again, she hates me now, etc. All those crazy things. Please tell me I'm not the only one this has happened to. Will she be ok? Ugh, I feel so bad 😥

While I have never dropped Calliope, I have known several people who have dropped their snakes. I assure you she should be fine. You must keep in mind that these animals live out in the wild, in trees, etc. and fall all the time and still manage to live on (I'm sure she doesn't hate you either) but don't worry. These animals are strong, and live out in the wild just fine, falling from trees, going weeks without eating, don't fret. They've gone through years of evolution and have survived this long. I'm sure she will be just fine ^~^ She may be a little nervous about being handled, but that is nothing some short, handling sessions won't fix! A lot of people feel like their snakes are fragile (and I can understand why) but you have to bear in mind they are animals that survive out in the wild just fine, and for a healthy snake being dropped is nothing compared to what they would face out there.

I don't even have to try to drop my butter male - he will climb his log very night and then belly flop back to the floor of his viv! The noise he makes is ridiculous - its like he is too lazy to climb back down!

Honestly, they are tougher than they appear. Provided she has no visible swelling to her spinal area etc and appears to be moving and breathing normally then just take it slowly with her xxx

Mine did that once. He was new to us and about to start shed(eyes clouded up the next day) so he was a little cranky and he just kinda lunge-jumped out of my hands at my fiance and fell to the floor. Also, when he comes out of his hides to explore at night, he likes to climb to the lid of his tub and circle it while peeking out at us or the TV. Sometimes he loses his grip and you'll hear *THUMP* I try not to anthropomorphize them, but when that happens it's almost like he pops his head up to say "I'm good!"

One time my biggest snake Emrys managed to tip his tub off the shelf it was on, it dropped about 3 feet to the ground and I'm sure his water bowl probably hit him in the fall. His hide thankfully is quite lightweight. I discovered it probably hours after if happened because I wasn't home at the time of the incident, but he seemed none too worse for wear other than the fact that he wasn't on his heating pad, since it was still attached to the shelf. Never saw any negative response from him about it after I set him back up, though I did anchor the tub down to the shelf after that.
