high humidity concern

the last few days our area has had a lot of humidity in our area. I cant keep my humdity level under 70%. sometimes it drops around 67 or 68 but it never goes above 75%. its not damp enough that the substrate feals damp to the touch and there is no misting on the glass walls. should i be worried about IR or other problems? they say that higher Humitidy can cause problems, but how high is too high. i have tried to find out buy searching online, but all i can ever find is that it says high humidity levels are dangerous but how high is too high and what is border line. thanks i just need some numbers to look at.

Same problem here. Monsoons, good for me, bad for humidity.

If your humidity does not go over 75% you should be just fine.

EDIT: OH ya....Mike made me rethink my upper limit for bp humidity....50-60% is ideal....75% during shed....thanks Mike...my humidity stays at 55% so it is something I rarely think about

75% is way too high for everyday life, that high humidity is exceptable for a shed period of 7-10 days max. It won't hurt your snake if it's only a few days here and there but if it becomes a regular leval you will won't to correct it. 65% is as high as your going to want to go if not in shed. There are ways of doing this but we will need to know what kind of cage your using?

Dude get that humidity down. Try using the repti carpet, it sucks when you have a low humidity problem and are trying to raise it, therefor may work for you. also use heat lamps. At first I was having a humidity problem at night when my lamps were off, I switched to Infra red lamps, so I could burn them 24/7, not only did they help me regulate the heat better, they also helped with the humidity. It dropped it from the high 60's to the low to mid 50's for me. Give it a shot. You defonately need to drop them levels.

Of course here is the disclamer,,,,, I am an idiot! lol,, I am also very new to this stuff! However, thanks to the very cool folks in this forum, I have become slightly educated, however, learn something new each day. It makes sence to me that these things may help.

heat lamps can be a pain though...if they work for you then that's great but they can also suck all the moister out of the cage and make it too dry.

Lamp Dimmers dude Lamp dimmers. They make it all work great. With them, you can use only the amount of light/heat you need. And the problem that I had was I needed some humidity sucked out as he does.

well thanks for the info guys. i have just gone away from the ifrared lights because it was sucking to much moisture out. now its gone to the next extreme. my temps are perfect right now. i do however have a dimmer on my heat lamp. the dimmers do work great. my humdity has dropped to 65% right now. if it goes back up today i will try something different. I am ussing a 20 g aquarium. thanks for all your input. i was just more interested i guess into what my humidity limits are rather than how to get them down.

I'm guessing you probably have some sort of screen lid or something home made? If so then there is your problem, you need to use some sort of solid lid that will separate your room environment from the cage. I'm guessing that the cage ambient temp and humidity are similar to that of the room it's in, if the humidity is high/low in that room then the same will be seen in your cage and same for ambient temp. There are many ways of correcting this but if I were you I would just go out and get a clear rubbermaid tub, they are very cheap and perfect for controlling the temps and humidity levals. Just driil some holes for air flow and your set. You'll need to upgrade that 20G soon anyway as those are only good for so long and then they become too small so why spend $100 on another aquarium of fare size when you can get the same size or bigger runnermaid tub for no more than $20 bucks...And don't worry about those rubbermaids not looking very good because you can make them look just as good as an aquarium, my rubbermaid looks better then alot of my friends aquariums and I saved around $100 and can controll my temps/humidity better.
