Feeding size

Hi, im unsure about the size im feeding to my ball pythons, they are both around 20 inches or more (the male is bigger) my female just ate a mouse (i think it was too small, and she wont take rats, but im still trying)and the male is just swallowing a rat pup right now, i feed every friday, and both of them look slim right before feeding day, and i can definetly see a bump on them, im going to upload pictures right now so everyone can see them

Thats the female, she usually gets bigger mice but this is the one my stepmom got me bc she was by the store

EDIT: Got those posted up fast! Looks like it's the right size - a noticeable lump, but nothing too large that will still be visible in 3-4 days.

This is my YB male, he looks huge here for some reason, but its not really an extreme difference between the female and him

His bump is more pronounced than the female's but he eats that size without any issue so idk, and do you think the female should get bigger prey or no? Maybe the same rat pups the male gets?

I'd say they're both good with the size they got here. Neither one looks like they swallowed a football - both are noticeable. If you want to get technical, you could pick up a kitchen scale and go by the weight of the prey item vs the weight of your two beauties (it's what I'd do, but not everyone is a numbers geek like I am).

That is definetly on my shopping list i heard the prey has to be 20% the weight of the snake, is that right? Also, if the bump is still visible after 3-4 days the prey is too big?

10-15% is a good guideline for hatchlings. It doesn't apply once they get to be around 500 grams and up though.

The 3-4 day guideline (max) to get back down to normal girth is a pretty good one, yeah.

Thank you! I really appreciate your help I'm going to check them in 4 days and if i still see the bump then they will get a smaller prey item
