From a garbage disposal to a picky eater
Bix is 7 months, got him at 4 - (scale is broken, no current read on weight - not skinny, not mondo...approx the size of a paper towel roll tube at largest point and about 14-15 inches long) He's been an amazing eater, proportional mouse every five to seven days, always.Refused during shed, as expected, so I bumped him to 2 med/large mice within a five day period for 2 weeks after shed- totally nabbed them. I wasn't sure when or if it was time to bump him to rats, so I tried an ex-small about a week ago - gave it a smell but refused, which I partly expected. Bought some large mice from a local pet store (sick of contributing to petsmart)- he showed interest in both but wouldn't strike. Figured he's picky and wasn't happy about the change of brand. Bought a large F/T from petsmart (ugh) today, thawed as usual and presented as usual. No dice. Smelled it, watched it, followed it out of his hide, but didn't strike. He's doing what he always does when he's hungry - resting his head/hovering at the opening of his hot side hide basically all night. But he just won't take it. Seems like since I tried the rat he's in a mood or something (still brilliant with handling). I know, I know, notoriously picky eaters, but for the past 3 months he's been sucking down the same appropriately sized mice/brand like clockwork. What's up with the change? Just trying to get a read on the situation. Suggestions/input/constructive criticism? Just left a large, same brand as usual F/T in his tank in the dark, doubt he'll give it a go. (Husbandry is perfect to a T, no RI, mites, etc) Sound paranoid as always but some solid, hearty input always helps. Gotta ask to learn. Thanks guys.
