Coconut Fiber

I use Eco Earth Coconut Fiber for my BP's substrate. Well I only get the kind that comes in bricks, you know, the kind you have to wet to break up etc. Well they were out at the Pet Store, and my boyfriend got me the bag of the already broken up substrate. I get the substrate in the bricks because mites obviously would be able to live in there, my sister recently had a bad mite infestations for using the already broken up kind. I know that baking the substrate first can kill any bugs so my question is how long should I bake the substrate to make sure it kills any bugs?

I've never had an issue with bags of loose eco earth. Although I've only used it 3 Times. Is it still sealed properly? No holes etc? If you feel you must bake it I'd do a lower temp like 200° F for 2 or 3 hours and see how that works.

Hm, unless that bag had holes in it that mites from the petstore snakes could enter, I wouldn't worry about it.

Usually the kind of "bugs" you find in mulch, aren't the same that infest snakes. Unless the store itself is infested with reptile mites..
