    Question Retained shed

My BP shed a week ago and left retained shed on the head and neck. I have been soaking him for around 5 days now and it still won't come off. Luckily it's not on the eye caps because he said very fidgety. I'm considering having a check up with my local exotic pets vet. As of now I am not sure what else to try other than soaking because it just won't work. I put him in lukewarm water for 20 minutes... even tried a little mineral oil and didn't work. Yikes.

When i had that problem someone told me to get a warm damp towel and let them slide through it,it worked great. Apply a little pressure to help but don't pull it off.. should do the trick, soaking is more stress especially doodling that many times

I have a few snakes that I had to soak multiple times to get the shed off, seems like it happens more on my retics than my balls or kings. I was soaking for 30 minutes in 90F water, it took four soaks to finally get the shed off of my SD retic a couple weeks ago. You may try a wet pillow case too. I'm still not sure why some sheds don't come off very well even when I keep the humidity up in the enclosures...

I think it might be the snake in general, our smallest one always seems to miss his head when shedding yet the rest all comes off clean. The others shed with no problem every time and they all have the same humidity & temps. Just throwing my 2 cents in.

I'd try soaking at around 88 degrees, in water about a little more then half his body height. Do that about a half hour to forty minutes. Then let him slither through a warm damp/wet washcloth. Apply gentle to slightly firm pressure while holding. Usually works like a charm. Might need to do more than once. Never been a fan of the pillow case method, but that's just my two cents.
