athena has a respiratory infection :|

What's up everyone, my 1 1/2 year old ball python athena unfortunately happened to come across a case of respiratory infection. i took her to the vet two days after I first saw her drooling as I had to go away the next day. the vet did a culture and prescribed fortaz...she gets shots every 3 days for 8 consecutive times. she is still very up and active but I can see her resting her head on the logs higher than her body meaning I know she's having some trouble breathing.

is there anything else I can do? currently soaking her in some tap water right now for the past 15 Mins hoping it'll loosen any thick mucus up. I have not seen any more drool yet. the vet told me she heard some problems in her tract but it wasn't the worst case she has seen. said I was lucky to have seen her drool and caught it early, when I was holding her bc usually with reptiles you don't know they're sick until there is a serious problem.

is there anything else I can do for her? not experienced with a sick snake.

I wish I had some good information. All I can think of is keep a close watch on her humidity since humidity being too high is what causes respiratory infections, or scale rot. Hope she gets well soon!

Bump up both her heat and humidity. It won't necessarily help her knock out the infection any faster but it will keep the mucous soft so she can expel it more easily.

Think of it like when you're congested and you take a hot, steamy shower to help clear the crud out of your sinuses.

I wouldn't bother with soaking, she doesn't need that stress right now.

Don't soak her, that's just adding un needed stress at this point. It's great you've gotten her vetted, but what also needs to be done is fixing your husbandry, your temps and humidity need to be correct and stable as that's likely what caused the problem to being with. (Assuming you didn't recently acquire this snake like this?) What are you housing this snake in? How are you judging and controlling temps? Do you have a picture?

That is incorrect information. Humidity does not cause RI.

As far as the OP, there are some people/breeders/MODS on this site that are very experianced treating their snakes, they will have some sound advise, otherwise ask your Vet before someone gives you info that can hurt not help.
