    Had my first break out!!

So last night, I had to reseal a small portion on the front of Caesar's cage since apparently I missed it because F10 would seep out from under the track and create a damp spot. So I find the spot I missed, clean it well and reseal it with left over Lexel I had. I put Caesar in a 32 qt Sterilite tub that has a locking lid. Then I put him on top of Dots cage since hers has a RHP so it would give him a spot to curl up on to stay warm. Caesar looked happy, was quietly sitting in his hide inside the tub on the warm side. I went to bed.

I wake up this morning and go over to check on Caesar and let him know his cage is ready. I pick the tub up and wonder why it felt so light. I open it and see a piss soaked paper towel pile. I lift up and the hide and CAESAR IS GONE!!! Holy cow, I about fainted. I was thinking where could he go? God I hope he didn't go in the bathroom where the house furnace heater is!! God I hope he didn't go in the bathroom where the washer and dryer are!! I'm just standing there not knowing where to start looking.

So I decide to start at the point of escape. I notice on the floor under Dots cage, the tub I use to defrost rats, the lid is knocked off. Ok Caesar must have gone this way. Then just by some weird feeling, I decide to lift up a swivel chair that is kind of close to there. BINGO!! Caesar was curled up on the floor under the chair sleeping!!! I reach down, scoop him up and he just calmly looks at me, doesn't even uncoil lol. I then check him to make sure he is ok and he looked fine. I held him for awhile and he was being antisocial and pissed off I woke him up I think lol. So I put him in his cage and he crawls into his warm hide and curls up and pokes his head out of the hide, looks at me for a few mins and then goes in and curls up.

Lesson, even though none of my other snakes figured out how to get out a locking lid tub, the retic did. Only thing I can think is he pissed the paper, didn't like the idea of sitting in it so set out for freedom. He must have braced himself on the floor of the tub and pushed a corner up and somehow squeezed out. I'm just so glad I found him and next time, I'm sleeping on top of the tub. I know his skinny little butt isn't going to push my fat butt off the lid

Nice happy ending. Glad you didn't have to tear your house apart.

I'm not really surprised that he had the strength to bust out. After having the doors and tracks blown out and a set of acrylic doors permanently bowed, I put nothing past these snakes.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Well the funny part is Rosey or Vic have never done it. Sure they pushed the corners but never actually pushed them hard enough to lift the corner. And Rosey is 7' and Vic is 5'. Caesar is only about 4.5'. People were right, retics are smart little buggers. Its also funny how he went to the closest thing from the tub which was the swivel recliner and curled up under that and went to sleep. Its like he didn't want to sit in his piss covered paper towels so he pushed them to one side of the tub but that wasn't enough. So broke out and then went under the chair for a dry place to sleep lol.

Re: Had my first break out!!

After watching how Phyllis vigorously pushes at her cage I have no doubt that she (or Caesar) could escape a locking lid tub. Such strong and intelligent snakes. Glad you found your little fugitive! I'd have freaked out if either of mine made an escape. Glad he's safe and sound again!

Lol I did freak out. I just stood there in the middle of the room staring at the floor. I had no idea where to even start as I never had a fugitive. Luckily Caesar left crime scene evidence with the knocked over dinner thawing bucket lid. maybe he got out and decided to check that for dinner as it probably smells like rats and poultry lol. When no dinner was there, I'm guessing he made his way over to the swivel recliner and decided under it was a good place to curl up and sleep. I think I got lucky as it had been probably 8-9 hours. He could have covered a lot of ground in that amount of time. Good thing Caesar is a lounger haha.

You aren't kidding. I was floored. Here I am scolding others for escaped critters and I wake up to an empty tub myself. Second was the fact a little 4.5' snake could push the top corner up enough to get out but my 7' and 5' girls didn't even do it just amazed me. Well needless to say, Caesar is going on 'the list' which Dot is already on. I have to keep an eagle eye on them two lol.
