There's always a risk in doing that. You don't know what is on that moss, like parasites, bugs, etc.
Having that said, I plan on doing this myself with some moss that my cousin had recently found, but before adding in my moss I'm going to freeze it then run warm water through it in hopes of cleaning out anything that could be dangerous to my snake.

If I were you, I would research all I could about treating moss before putting it in, and that's only if you really want to put that specific moss in. Otherwise, you're better off buying.

A little decoration isnt worth the risk. if you gather anything from the outside it needs to be treated before being added to a cage, that goes for any animal. Sticks, logs, rocks , or moss would need to be baked, soaked in bleach, or frozen to be safe.

There's also the possibility of fertilizer or pesticides.

It would probably depend on your setup. You would need some UV light or it will die off. Look up "bioactive reptile husbandry" for some good stuff. Research if you are interested in that kinda stuff.

I honestly think that reptile keeping is going to make a shift from this sterile style keeping to a more naturalistic type keeping. Sort of like how people used to keep fish aquariums with fake coral and plants....now the high end keeping has real living systems in the enclosures.
